National Director of the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)

Hello Everyone!

It is an honor for me to address so many talented minority business owners and entrepreneurs in the first issue of the U.S.-China Business Summit Newsletter! On behalf of the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), let me congratulate you all for making a positive impact on our community!

MBDA¡¯s mission is to foster the growth and global competitiveness of U.S. businesses that are minority-owned.  Through our network of 48 minority business centers throughout the country, MBDA provides technical assistance, strategic guidance and business consulting services for minority businesses. In addition, minority business centers are providing workshops and presentations to educate minority-owned businesses about federal opportunities, including those related to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

MBDA¡¯s strategic goals are to:

  1. Increase the number of businesses that are minority-owned at the $100 billion level
  2. Establish MBDA as the agency of choice for businesses that are minority-owned, policymakers, and the private sector
  3. Implement operational efficiencies throughout MBDA

Together, we will find solutions to build a stronger business community! MBDA has identified the following strategic priorities and is implementing programs to achieve these goals:

  • Improve marketplace access and opportunities for minority businesses
  • Improve access to traditional and non-traditional sources of capital for minority business, and
  • Continue to serve as a knowledge center and valuable resource for minority businesses and for other stakeholders.

My team and I look forward to seeing and partnering with you all at the January 3-5, 2010 Summit in Las Vegas! Please don¡¯t hesitate to reach out to us at http://www.mbda.gov/.
